Walden Surfboard Project

Walden Surfboard Project

Walden Surfboards has partnered with the Ojai2Ocean Marathon & O2O Half-Marathon by providing the mile markers and finish line marker. By using old, broken, and forgotten surfboards abandoned long ago to their “surfboard graveyard” behind the shop on Front St. in Ventura, Walden has not only sponsored the event, but has provided a tremendously green alternative to constructing new signage for the course by re-using their waste.

A generous tip of the hat goes to Steve Walden, founder and owner of Walden Surfboards, as well for parting ways with a few boards that have some sentimental value… just like those old, beat-up running shoes you still have tucked in the back of your closest.

In 2011, we will be chronicled the transition from dirty, old boards stored away behind Walden Surfboards to the polished, painted, and beautiful mile markers.

The 13 and 26 mile markers will be auctioned off at the race to the participants with the proceeds being donated to charity in the name of Walden Surfboards and Compete Green. At last year’s event, we raised nearly 1000 dollars at our silent auction from the mile 8, 13, 14, and 26 mile markers. In 2012, we will auction the half-marathon 13 and the marathon 26 markers as well as 2 boards of choice.
